The first telephone exchange arrived in , a volunteer fire department organized in and electric lights first lit up the town in From these seeds grew the McKinney we know today: a town that is growing quickly and was chosen by Money Magazine in as the 1 Best Place to Live in the country.

On the western fringes of McKinney is this water reservoir, granting wonderful respite from the fierce Texas summers. This odd museum is the brainchild of a local pest-controller and has a large collection of dead cockroaches on display.
